The
Spacious Firmament On High
Words: Joseph Addison (1712)
Music: Haydn
The spacious firmament on high,
With all the blue ethereal sky,
And spangled heavens, a shining frame
Their great Original proclaim.
The unwearied sun, from day to day,
Does his Creator's powers display,
And publishes to every land
The work of an Almighty Hand.
Soon
as the evening shades prevail
The moon takes up the wondrous tale,
And nightly to the listening earth
Repeats the story of her birth;
While all the stars that round her burn
And all the planets in their turn,
Confirm the tidings as they roll,
And spread the truth from pole to pole.
What
though in solemn silence all
Move round the dark terrestrial ball?
What though no real voice nor sound
Amid the radiant orbs be found?
In reason's ear they all rejoice,
And utter forth a glorious voice,
Forever singing as they shine,
"The hand that made us is divine."
There
Is A Fountain
Words: William Cowper in "Conyer’s Collection of Psalms and Hymns"
(1772)
Music: Mason
Lead: Jeff Martin
There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel's veins;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.
Lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.
Dear
dying Lamb, Thy precious blood shall never lose its power
Till all the ransomed church of God be saved, to sin no more.
Be saved, to sin no more, be saved, to sin no more;
Till all the ransomed church of God be saved, to sin no more.
E'er
since, by faith, I saw the stream Thy flowing wounds supply,
Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.
And shall be till I die, and shall be till I die;
Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.
Hallelujah! What A Savior
Words and music: Phillip P. Bliss in International Lessons Monthly
© 1875
Lead: Bill Spencer (?)
Man of Sorrows! what a name
For the Son of God, Who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Bearing
shame and scoffing rude,
In my place condemned He stood;
Sealed my pardon with His blood.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Guilty,
vile, and helpless we;
Spotless Lamb of God was He;
"Full atonement!" can it be?
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Lifted
up was He to die;
"It is finished!" was His cry;
Now in heav'n exalted high.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
When
He comes, our glorious King,
All His ransomed home to bring (ransomed home to bring),
Then anew His song we'll sing:
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
The Lord's My Shephered
Words: Psalm 23
Words and music to "The Lord's My Shepherd": Francis Rous
and Campbell (circa 1650)
Words to "The Lord My Shepherd Is": Issac Watts (1719)
Music to "The Lord My Shepherd Is": John S. Bach (1750)
Lead: Keith Lancaster
The Lord's my Shephard, I'll not want
He makes me down to lie
In pastures green, He leadeth me
In pastures green, He leadeth me
The quiet waters by
My
soul he doth restore again
And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness
Within the paths of righteousness
E'en for His own names sake
Yea,
though I walk through death's dark vale
Yet will I fear no ill
For thou art with me, and thy rod
For thou art with me, and thy rod
And staff me comfort still.
My
table thou has furnished
In presence of my foes;
My head thou dost with oil anoint
My head thou dost with oil anoint
And my cup overflows.
Goodness
and mercy all my life
Shall surely follow me,
And in God's house for evermore
And in God's house for evermore
My dwelling-place shall be.
The
Lord my Shepherd is,
I shall be well supplied.
Since He is mine and I am His,
What can I want beside?
What can I want beside?
He
leads me to the place
Where heav'nly pasture grows,
Where living waters gently pass
And full salvation flows.
And full salvation flows.
If
e'er I go astray,
He doth my soul reclaim
And guides me in His own right way
For His most holy name.
For His most holy name.
Peace, Perfect Peace
Words: Edward H. Bickersteth, Jr. (1875)
Music: George Thomas Caldbeck (1877)
Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin?
The blood of Jesus whispers peace within.
Peace,
perfect peace, by thronging duties pressed?
To do the will of Jesus, this is rest.
Peace,
perfect peace, with sorrows surging round?
On Jesus' bosom naught but calm is found.
Peace,
perfect peace, with loved ones far away?
In Jesus' keeping we are safe, and they.
Peace,
perfect peace, our future all unknown?
Jesus we know, and He is on the throne.
Peace,
perfect peace, death shadowing us and ours?
Jesus has vanquished death and all its powers.
It
is enough: earth's struggles soon shall cease,
And Jesus call us to heaven's perfect peace
It May Be At Morn
Words: H. L. Turner (circa 1878)
Music: James McGranahan (circa 1906)
It may be at morn, when the day is awaking,
When sunlight through darkness and shadow is breaking
That Jesus will come in the fullness of glory
To receive from the world "His own."
Chorus:
O Lord Jesus, how long, how long
Ere we shout the glad song,
Christ returneth! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Amen. Hallelujah! Amen.
It
may be at midday, it may be at twilight,
It may be, per chance, that the blackness of midnight
Will burst into light in the blaze of His glory,
When Jesus receives "His own."
Repeat
Chorus
While
its hosts cry Hosanna, from heaven descending,
With glorified saints and the angels descending,
With grace on His brow, like a halo of glory,
Will Jesus receive "His own."
Repeat
Chorus
Oh,
joy! oh, delight! should we go without dying,
No sickness, no sadness, no dread and no crying.
Caught up through the clouds with our Lord into glory,
When Jesus receives "His own."
Repeat
Chorus
Christ We Do All Adore Thee
Words and music: Baker and Dubois
Christ, we do all adore thee, and we do praise thee forever
Christ, we do all adore thee, and we do praise thee forever
For on the holy cross, hast thou the world from sin redeemeth
Christ, we do all adore thee, and we do praise thee forever
Christ,
we do all adore thee
How Firm A Foundation
Words: John Rippon in A Selection of Hymns from the Best Authors
(1787) (Attributed to John Keene, Kirkham, and George Keith)
Music: Traditional American melody.
How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said,
You, who unto Jesus for refuge have fled?
Fear
not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
For I am thy God and will still give thee aid;
I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand
Upheld by My gracious, omnipotent hand.
When
through the deep waters I cause thee to go,
The rivers of sorrow shall not overflow;
For I will be with thee, thy troubles to bless,
And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.
When
through fiery trials thy pathways shall lie,
My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply;
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.
The
soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I'll never, no never, no never forsake.
Nearer, Still Nearer
Words and music: Leila N. Morris (1898)
Nearer, still nearer, close to Thy heart,
Draw me, my Savior—so precious Thou art!
Fold me, oh, fold me close to Thy breast.
Shelter me safe in that "Haven of Rest;"
Shelter me safe in that "Haven of Rest."
Nearer,
still nearer, nothing I bring,
Naught as an offr'ing to Jesus, my King;
Only my sinful, now contrite heart.
Grant me the cleansing Thy blood doth impart.
Grant me the cleansing Thy blood doth impart.
Nearer,
still nearer, Lord, to be Thine!
Sin, with its follies, I gladly resign,
All of its pleasures, pomp and its pride,
Give me but Jesus, my Lord, crucified.
Give me but Jesus, my Lord, crucified.
Nearer,
still nearer, while life shall last.
Till safe in glory my anchor is cast;
Through endless ages ever to be
Nearer, my Savior, still nearer to Thee;
Nearer, my Savior, still nearer to Thee!
When Peace Like A River
Words: Horatio G. Spafford (1873)
Music: Philip P. Bliss (1876)
Lead: Bill Spencer (?)
When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
Chorus:
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
My
sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
Repeat
Chorus
And
Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.
Repeat
Chorus
